Capturing the elegance of memoriesIn May, Western Art Gallery is proud to feature Monica Márquez Gatica, an award-winning painter whose works reflect the joy of gatherings, quiet evenings, and memories worth savoring. Through Hybrid Fluid Realism, Monica creates art that tells stories—art that captures your passions and blends them with timeless beauty. Two Homes, One CanvasMonica was born and raised in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, a place deeply connected to wine, tradition, family, and celebrations. She has lived in Colorado for 20 years, and loves how the landscape, light, and creative community here has become part of her story. Her work brings together two worlds: the warmth and heritage of Spain with the beauty, openness, and spirit of Colorado. Although her grandfather, uncle, and father were all oil painters, Monica did not grow up painting. In 2013, her brother asked her to create a painting for his restaurant. That piece connected Monica with her roots and emotions tied to Jerez. From that moment, painting became more than something she loved. It became her way of preserving memory, heritage, and the meaningful moments that connect us. Unique StyleMonica's signature style is called Hybrid Fluid Realism. She combines the movement and spontaneity of acrylic pouring with the precision and detail of traditional oil painting. The fluid elements help create energy, motion, and atmosphere, while the realistic details bring focus, depth, and refinement. This combination allows each painting to feel both expressive and elegant. Her perspective is that art should do more than fill a wall. It should spark a memory, start a conversation, and help people feel connected to the moments that matter most. Inspiration and StoriesMonica is most inspired by wine, champagne, whiskey, spirits, glassware, and the atmosphere around them, but these subjects are not only about the bottle or the drink itself. They represent celebration, friendship, reflection, and the memories created around a table, a home bar, a wine room, or a special gathering. She also enjoys painting pieces that feel warm, rich, and full of story, especially when they connect to someone’s personal experience or favorite moment. |
